Dr Yoshiharu Nishiyama is specialized in fiber diffraction analysis and structure-property relations of cellulosic materials. He obtained his PhD from the University of Tokyo on Mercerization and structure analysis of cellulose in 2000 and continued as Assistant professor at the University of Tokyo. Since 2004 he is  CNRS scientist at CERMAV in Grenoble. 

Dr Nishiyama has been awarded the 2008 Japan Wood Research Society Prize, 2012 Hayashi Jisuke Award, 2015 Marcus Wallenberg Prize, and the 2021 Anselme Payen Award.
