Philip Gillgard joins the FibRe Management Team
We welcome Philip Gillgard who will take over the role as Innovation Manager, and we’d like to wish our previous Innovation Manager Camilla Johansson the best of luck with her work leading the Quantum Sweden Innovation Platform (QSIP)!
Tell us a little about yourself, Philip:
I work as a group manager for materials and chemistry at Chalmers Industriteknik and I particularly enjoy contributing to make research results useful in companies. My job is a lot about this, acting as a link between academia and industry. FibRe is a very good example of that, and it feels great to join the centre. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Camilla for her efforts in introducing me to FibRe.
What about your professional background?
I have worked at Chalmers Industriteknik for four years, with materials science, chemistry and business development. I also was part of the startup world until recently, as a hired CEO of a fuel cell company. Before that, I worked for ten years at RISE in Mölndal, mostly with innovation in plastics and textiles. During this period, I took a degree in business administration. I was previously an industrial PhD in surface chemistry at Chalmers and have done a postdoc in physical chemistry at Bristol University. I have also worked several years in industry and would like to mention Tetra Pak in this context, where I spent the first time after earning my MSc in Chemical Engineering from Chalmers.
What will you be your contribution to FibRe?
I believe that my background in both academia and industry will be a good asset in FibRe. My commitment to getting research results to industry, to develop sustainable products for increased competitiveness also feels important. My scientific background means that I feel close to the research that is conducted in FibRe. Combined with my competence in business administration, I can take on a broad role in the centre.
