Treesearch/FibRe webinar: Lars Berglund

Professor Berglund research focuses on nanostructured composite materials, with a particular emphasis on cellulose-based systems. His recent research emphasizes the development of advanced, functional wood-based materials that promote sustainability and innovation in renewable resources.

With over 200 peer-reviewed publications and more than 46,000 citations on Google Scholar (as of May 2025), Professor Berglund is a highly influential figure in the scientific community. He has also supervised more than 20 Ph.D. students throughout his career.

Among his most renowned achievements is the creation of transparent wood—a breakthrough material made by removing lignin from natural wood and replacing it with a transparent polymer, such as PMMA.

Lars Berglund has held visiting research positions at Stanford University, Cornell University, and Kyoto University. He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and currently holds a prestigious ERC Advanced Grant for his work on nanotechnologies for transparent wood.
