Last week, some of our FibRe members participated in the Cellulose International Summit, held at the LGP2 laboratory in Grenoble, France, from June 29 to July 2. The conference brought together researchers working on cellulose and cellulose derivatives, new advanced cellulosic materials, and their sustainable end of life. The event was co-organized by Cellulose Valley, Kanazawa University, and the DurInnPack PRIMA project.

Per Larsson (KTH) delivered a keynote lecture titled ”Widening the property space and the processability of cellulose fibers by chemical modification”, while Beatrice Swensson and members of NextGen presented their work in oral sessions:

• Johanna Sjölund (KTH) – Interplay between functional group chemistry and water interactions in modified cellulose fibers
• Emma Colombari (KTH) – Cellulose 3D shaping through plasticization
• Arvindh Seshadri Suresh (Chalmers) – Fragility of cellulose derivatives
• Beatrice Swensson (KTH) – Stability of nanocellulose made with oxalic acid
